CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION
Since 1997, supporting community awareness and the prevention of child abuse and neglect has been our primary mission. The Blue Ribbon Campaign is our signature event to inform and educate our citizens about child abuse prevention. Annually, the Board of County Commissioners and Klamath Falls City Council set a month-long series of prevention activities in motion as each proclaims "April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month" in Klamath.

Purple Paws & People
Purple Paws & People: Keeping pets and people safe. The program utilizes animal-welfare as a way to protect victims of family violence and for early identification of children and families at-risk. Decades of scientific research have shown the connection (The LINK®) between cruelty to animals and interpersonal violence. Animals are often the target of threats and acts of violence as a way to control family members and others. Animal abuse is an early warning signal of a family in trouble. Investigation of animal abuse is often the first point of social services intervention for a family at-risk. On a positive note, parents can use the natural child-animal bond to teach their children empathy skills. Helping children develop empathy is good for them, good for the community, and ultimately leads to a more compassionate world. The program provides empathy skill building materials to parents and caregivers and promotes public education on The LINK®. Purple Paws & People program also includes our Klamath Animal Watch (KAW), a neighborhood watch for pets program registered with USAonWatch.org - National Sheriff's' Association.

PEACE POLE PROJECT
Promoting peace is the positive form of preventing violence. Inscribed with the message "May Peace Prevail On Earth"™ (in multiple languages) Peace Poles are a constant reminder to visualize a world in peace and think how it would feel to know you are absolutely safe from harm.
